And much of the value is now concentrated into a very small percentage of cards—parallels, short prints, case hits, and perfect-condition graded cards.

For many collectors, that’s created a frustrating reality: You can love the hobby… but feel priced out of the very cards that make it exciting.

At the same time, manufacturers are increasingly focused on direct-to-consumer sales, large-scale distribution, and maximizing margins. That’s their business—and we understand that.

But it’s also changed the experience at the local level.

Just recently, we watched a group of high school friends buy a Pokémon booster box, sit down together, and open all 36 packs while eating dinner and hanging out.
